Got my seed exchange package. I am very impressed it never disappoints but this year is exceptional with all the seed varieties. I will have a fun growing season. Thanks Brandon and all the generous growers of the group.

Cleared off the patch this weekend. I am a little behind last year but I am working at a later start so I don’t run into the same issue as last year. Here is a before pic.

And an after pic. Still have some weeds to pull but pretty good for now.

I have my lineup set, sort of. I couldn’t choose so I will start these six seeds and pick the best four plants.

Also got my tomato patch tilled. I’m hoping to break my pb of 1.96 this year.

I got my fertilizer from WOW Wallace... and from amazon. Ron does such good business and has very fast delivery, I even got a little freebie super starter pack in my order. Thanks Ron!

Tilled my mater and marrow patch again. Got compost tilled in and got the ground nice and loose. Didn’t get a pic but got 4.5 yards of compost and another 4 yards of black dirt on the patch. I have yet to till it in but should get it done this weekend.

Put down some amendments and perlite before starting to till.

Seeds are soaking. Won’t be long now! Still a wee bit before Matt’s start date but a day or two won’t hurt.

I just wanted to let everyone know... or at least everyone who looks at my diary lol... that my email (thomr2@isd191.org) will be discontinued once June hits. If you want to reach me email my other account (reedsbirdsandbees@gmail.com) which is what I changed my BP account to. Just thought I’d let you know!

Got my competition tomatoes planted today! A little late but better late then never! A team with no name is going to be a contender this year.

Tuesday, April 28 View Page
I planted two of each of these seeds.

And I planted one of each of these seed along with 8 of my own seeds from my maters last year (4- 1.72 Thoma and 6- 1.96 Thoma).

The 2051 Marshall, 1878 Leer, and the 1519 Trychta all popped a root today! Hopefully the 2066 and 1631 pop soon.

The 2066 Geddes popped a root today! Just waiting on the 1631 Urena, I am hoping on making the 1911 cross which is the 2066x1631.

Well, I had to look at the 1631 Urena. It wasn't viable anymore and started to rot. I really wanted to remake the 1911, do you think I should start another 1631 or should I just roll with what I got? My long gourd seeds don't look like they are going to pop but I didn't expect much since they were from 2014.

The 1519 is a mutant!!! It has three cots!

Potted up the giants today! They are a bit stressed as I should have done this a couple days ago but it got away from me. 2051 Marshall and 1878 Leer are my best plants so far.

Monday, May 11 View Page
The plants got some nice roots on them. They should have good root growth now that I used mycos and azos.

The 2051 has some nice cots on it.

Tuesday, May 12 View Page
Well I couldn’t help myself. I started another 1631 Urena. It popped a root today so the 1911 cross is still possible. I will just grow this plant for the pollen then it will gone.

These pics are a couple days old but mostly the same except that the 1878 started to vine today! There was a toad in the patch which I heard was good luck! Fingers crossed!

So I got all my giant tomatoes in the ground the other day. Then the next day the rabbit ate every single one off. Ugh. I have a couple back up but lost some awesome genetics. I guess the assault on the rabbit shall commence!

A pumpkin update. All 4 plants split due to high winds the last couple of days. It didn’t seem to so growth so I’m not giving up yet. The 1519 threw a ribbon vine on me. I guess I got to push the nitrogen now.

Well I am planting my backup toms tonight. Good news is that my regular eating tomatoes started throwing megas!!! I tried pollinating the last two days so fingers crossed they take!

Pumpkins are still chugging along even with the stem cracks. Got the double vine to split so I will cut one of the vines off soon. The 1878 leer is the strongest plant so far.

Got another good mega to pollinate!

So sadly my year is coming to a screeching halt on Thursday. I will be getting knee surgery so I won’t be able to do much in the patch. My dad said he will help water and pollinate but my dreams of getting of big one this year are slim. I will still be keeping my maters going strong so maybe I will still get a giant this year. Anyways good luck to all growers hope your season is better than mine. ( here’s a pic of a giant mater for ya )
