Patch prep done and everything ready to go! Fingers crossed we have better weather this year than we did in 2020! Have a great seed lineup this year including the 1985 Miller 2013, 2008 Neptune 2014, 1649 Lopresti 2019 and the 1271 Skinner 2020 squash. Excited!

A week later and everything is coming up nicely! Especially vigorous this year are the 2008 Neptune 2014, 1649 Lopresti 2019 and the 1271 Skinner 2020 squash! I think this will be my lineup as I have limited space and can only grow 2 giant pumpkins and a giant squash.

Ah the birthday tradition continues... Plants all hardened and in the ground! Names for this year's contenders are Neptune (after its namesake) , Mars (as the 1649 Lopresti 2019 was especially orange/red) and Venus (1271 Skinner 2020). It's a lineup that's out of this world...pun intended! Haha

Neptune (2008 Neptune 2014) looking great and running now. Far ahead of anything I've ever grown!

Neptune (2008 Neptune 2014) has burst its grow tent earlier than expected! This has been a super start to the season. Fingers crossed we don't have our typically cold and wet June (June-uary). Forecast looks good!

Neptune (2008 Neptune 2014) is now almost 30ft wide x 16 ft. Have a few great looking prospects that should be ready to go next week. Long range forecast is calling for a bit of a heat wave coming. That's a nice change. We'll see what happens.

Pollinated a pretty good looking 4 lober at about 16ft on the main on Neptune (2008 Neptune 2014) this morning. The heat wave they have forecast is approaching and I'm not sure this will make it if the temps get as high as the are forecasting (over 100F/40C). Time will tell! Too much of a good thing...

As suspected, the heat wave caused the previous contender to abort. Wow was it hot! Got to 104F... Luckily, because I'm working from home at present, I was able to mist the plants regularly and had zero scald! Now that we're on the back side of the heat wave...pollinated this lovely FAT 5 lober at 20ft on the main. Really hoping this one takes off!

It took! Neptune (2008 Neptune 2014) candidate at 20ft on the main in perfect position is growing well. DAP 7.

Well, unfortunately my battle with friggin squirrels continues... They chewed off the previous squash contender. However, tragic story with a silver lining! This sweet 6 lober opened up on the 1271 Skinner 2020 at 18ft on the main this morning! Grow baby grow! And stay away stupid squirrels!

DAP 14 for the 2008 Neptune 2014 and the results are great. Biggest day 14 measurement I've ever had. Really looking good and the weather conditions continue to be good (although very dry and forest fires becoming a concern).

DAP 16 on the 2008 Neptune 2014 and it's really starting to ramp up already. Gains ahead of my PB pumpkin for same time at pollination. Just hoping it holds together. Had to remove the blossom nub as it was funky, but all seems well.

DAP 18 and this thing (2008 Neptune 2014) is just going gangbusters. Already 30lbs ahead of my previous personal best at same time. Previous PB was 1,167 lbs. Would be awesome to beat that!

Venus (1271 Skinner 2020) giant squash hit DAP 50 and has surpassed my previous personal best of 702lbs. Such a great colour too!

Neptune (2008 Neptune 2014) hit DAP 60 and is approaching my goal of OTT 400. Really hoping it holds together! One month to go! So pretty too!
