It's been a disappointing season. We started with some funky secondary vine issues and only the first pumpkin pollinated worked - all other backups aborted. "Gary" (as the pumpkin is now known) hasn't been packing on the pounds as it should have and is probably the ugliest one I've ever grown. It's lumpy and bumpy and flat. I doubt I'll make the early and expensive journey across the pond to get an official weight. My pumpkin lift supervisor will be out of country so it might just be a year where we pick Gary early and donate him to the local winery for their Pumpkin Fest. At least Gary has a natural "seat" for kids to sit in for pictures.
