Here's the main vine cross section a few feet from the pumpkin. This confirms what I already knew. The rot started in that soft spot on the stem from the tendril, not from the soil/vine itself. While I obviously would have preffered that to not happen, it just shows that all of the efforts I made to fight the fusarium that got me last year worked! Next year I'll cut the tendril and leaf at the pumpkin as soon as I'm sure of pollination.
