Eleven days ago my seedlings were planted in their 4 foot x 4 foot seedling boxes. They are heated at night, the soil is heated to 78 degrees constantly & I do my best to maintain a VPD between 1.0 and 2.0. I try to keep the air temp between 85 and 105 degrees as much as possible during the days. The hotter it is, as long as the VPD is in the targeted range, the faster they grow! At higher temperatures plants transpire at a faster rate in order to cool themselves. The faster the plants sap flows, the more minerals are brought along with the water the plant is moving to its leaves. These minerals are used by the plant during the Calvin Cycle, the stage of photosynthesis where atmospheric CO2 is combined with minerals to form carbohydrates to fuel plant growth. And it happens incredibly fast when we provide the right conditions for our little plants!
