The gamble is paying off.
At exactly 5.5 DAP, Champ is measuring approximately 70% percent larger by volume than the 17-footer was at the same stage. And that's with sharing plant energy with the fruit I just culled up until 3 DAP.
Since going all-in, the growth rate has been noticeably better. The skin is tighter. The shape is filling out.
The cull decision was agonizing. The 17-footer was a healthy, committed fruit and I second-guessed it constantly. But the data doesn't lie. Better stem, bigger ovary going in, more mature plant at pollination, the structural advantages I couldn't ignore.
