Pillbugs/sowbugs and earwigs have decimated a row of squash and tomatoes I just planted. It took them about 3 nights to eat every last plant down to nothing. I know it was them because I saw them at 4 am with a flashlight they were swarming the last bits of the little plants. I'm not sure what to do perhaps a crop like garlic or poppies or potatoes might grow in that area, or I could attempt to solarize them to death. Maybe basil would survive. I wonder if chickens would scratch all those bugs out of the ground and thus prep it. Last of all, maybe just plant some fruit trees or berry vines. I'm not going to reach for insecticides as long as there are so many other solutions.

The excessive insects could be good as they provide free weed control. But I have to plant things they dont want to eat.
