So Cal

I put together a drip tape system last season that covered my entire pumpkin patch and it was quite a success.

One question, does the base of the plant need additional water? Or is the amount of water provided the drip system enough?

There are too many other factors to comment on what you need. Drainage? Slope? The only true was is to use a moisture meter and go with what you see

Same spacing throughout for me. In fact, later in the season, the base of the plant may need less water than the newer growth.

I would be careful not to add to much water around the stump. It is a concern for rots at the base. The main roots run out as far as the main vine.

my friends and I just discussed this very topic and the consensus was no, no additional watering around the stump. I also like to keep water well away from the stump. I have a fan pointed at it 24/7 to keep it dry.
