I,m not trying to jinx myself by asking this but, I,d like to know how some of you guys or gals load up your big pumpkins to take to a weighoff. What works, what don't. Looking for some ideas. Thanks, Randoooo.

Hey Scott, what a great problem! I'm sure you'll solve it if ya get it, I've never had to worry about it still dealing with growin one problems! I think it's a great question though, Eh the great books talk about tarps with handles more handles handle more weight...Promise the guys a keg of beer after they get it successfully on the truck! That's great Grow em Big! Chuck

Most everyone uses tarps. The pumpkins are rolled up on the side the tarps are placed under the pumpkin then set back down and then you and your army lift the tarp with the pumpkin and put it where you want it. For the smaller ones some use a utility tarp that is folded a couple of times. For a larger one I would order a special tarp through one of the pumpkin supply places and use that. This year I'm planning on using the pumpkin lifter I ordered from the PGPGA to hoist it into the air and then back the truck up underneath it.

With the pumpkin lifter like Brian mentions, and maybe a little scaffold or a tripod made out of 3 -14' 4x4's, one can sucessfully lift a 1000# pumpkin single-handedly. I also have a tarp, but find that after a few years, the "lifters" all seem to have something else to do that day,(even with free beer!).
