This is my first year growing pkins. I got started with seeds from the local store. I don't even know what kind now. Anyway I grew 135, 110, 90 pounders and one smaller. The smaller one has some crusty looking stuff on the bottom and that is surronded by some white slime. When I picked it I washed it off and set it in the sun and wind to dry off but the slime came back. Since it is my intention to grow the Montana record pkin. in 2003, I want to avoid this slime. The bigger ones did not have it. Can any one tell me what it is and how to avoid it? Thanks Ed

I taken that you have not heard of pumpkins "rotting"? That happens this time of year. The fruit should have a "soft spot" somewhere....keep looking. These thing don't bleed for nothing! Ask Tom Beachy!
