I don't feel the size of the patch has as much to do with the size of the pumpkin as much as what is in the soil. I can have as large of a patch as I want but if I am planting on poor soil then I do not think that I would get much of a crop. However if I have a small patch, that has been well maintained, lots of organic material and other "perfect" conditions, suited for pumpkin growing, then I would think that a larger pumpkin should grow....Tom

The major error that first year growers succome to is the idea that there is a "short cut" to growing a "big one".
It took me two years to finally figure out that there just isn't one!
