If I were to plant a common pumpkin vine close to the AG pumpkin plant I guess there would be a possibility of a cross polination and could possibly screw things right up?

Not likely Richard....the ones we grow are C.maxima....a common pumpkin is C.pepo or some other species. C.maxima will only cross with C.maxima......C.maximas include but not limited to species like giant banana squash, big max, prizewinners, cinderella pkns,hubbards,etc....make sure you plant something other than C.maxima's like Connecticut field pumpkins or they may cross......G

Richard, you can plant butternut or buttercups, can't you? Anyway, in order to play in the crosses league I think you have to make a proper pollination with all the stuff, closing both sexs night before, closing females after... It looks really hard for the bees to fight against a very minded grower, doesn't it? Two years ago I made a nice wild cross (bees did) betwen cinderella and blue hubbard, the doughters grew bigger fruits than the parents, sure they were, and green! Don
