what is the best way keep our seeds submerged in a hydrogen peroxide solution? i was thinking of getting two ice trays, placing the seeds with solution in one, and then setting the other on top to keep them submerged. do you think this will work? also, how long would you recommend to keep them submerged?

Last year I just let mine float in the surface film in a shallow saucer, you could put them in a little net bag with a pebble or something for a weight and drop them in a tumbler. I soaked mine overnight but I was very cautious because I hadn't tried it on pumpkins before and there were no reports of anyone elses to go on.

Old piece of window screen & a rock should work.

most store bought off the shelf is 3% if that's what you mean by straight Hydrogen peroxide...that's plenty!

I used 0.035% strength,I was looking for a difference in germination time but didn't get one.The plants looked good. I never had a problem getting seeds to germinate and concentrate my efforts on reducing leaf scarring as far as things that help this I put them in this order. 1.Sterilise the soil in my starting compost. 2.No direct light from my 400w bulb from day 2 to 3 until both leaves are out of the ground and pointing upwards(day 4).I put a 4" pot upside down over them to protect the immature underside of the top leaf which is the thing closest to the surface. This problem is probably just peculiar to me because I'm using a powerful light as a heat source and have to have it quite close to get the right heat. 3.Hydrogen Peroxide?I've only used it on best quality seed the real value is probably on seeds with black spots will find out more this year.

Didn't Carols & Boily Ben both use the 3% Drug Store type straight up with no dilution? Steve

Yes, with no dilution in normal seeds, but I am going to start a 658 cracked seed, and for this one I plan to dilute it till 1%.

I'll do a none,0.035% and 3.5% experiment and see what happens. Last night I found out that Hydrogen Peroxide contains additives to make it more stable in the container, they were Tin and very conveniently Phosphate and Nitrate.
