When is the best time to plant my seeds if I want my pumpkin for halloween? I wouldnt think until June or so but I see so many here planting htem already. How long can they stay on the vine and how long do they keep after they have been cut from the vine? thanks.

As I live in warm country as well (not so warm as Texas though), I looked for and found out that the hottest the place the sooner the maturity comes. As I guess Houston is not a particular cool exception in summer and if you want the pumpkin for Halloween, I would say you shouldn't plant before May 1st, and maybe the closer to mid May the more possibilities for the pumpking to last until that date.

The total days to harvest is 125 to 150 days so in order to have a pumpkin ready for halloween you would have to plant in June sometime as long as there is no risk of frost.

I guess you wouldn't have a risk of frost down in texas. Here I have to wait until June 15th so I have to wait patiently.

Some of the growers in CA are planting around the 15th of May for the contests the first Sat. in October.

Other Growers in California (like myself) are starting seed on May 1st (new moon) for the first week of Oct.
