due to heavy rain's i now have my 3 largest leafs in the middle of my plant broken (there 2' and there stems have 2 splits each running vertically for about an 11/2" colapsing there tub like structure at there base making them lay down.) i have them propped up with Y sticks but wounder if it would not be better to remove them. for if they can no longer produce energy it would give my side vines more light if?

If there is sufficient leaf area on the rest of the vine, I would remove the damaged leaf stalk from the vine. Clip it close but without causing collatral vine damage. Use a sterile, sharp pruner at an angle that prevents water from sitting on the cut.

I would leave them for a few more weeks....I fell on, steped on, cut, broke.....you get my drift. They healed up for me. Different climates though. I'd leave them for a few weeks until the plant gets way bigger, then cut them. You can use the ventilation around the stump anyway.

Once I stepped on my pumpkins main stem. I fought it will die, but it became harder, and my pumpkin didn'n die. I think they can 'cure' themselves when they are crushed or partly broken.
