Going on the premis that AG's take 150 days from sanding the edges to cutting from the vine then I should germinate on 17 May for a 4 October cutting from the vine. Is this correct? Is 150 days truly what one should look at as an accurate time frame? I am in Germany, and could plant as early as the first two weeks in May. The late September weeks can be cold here. Should I take that into consideration? thanks for you help....owen

i would definitely take the cold weeks in sept. into account. but a giant pumpkin can be grown in 120 day's. myself i alway's like to give it a little longer but planting to early is usually a big disadvantage. hope this is of some help.

Owen, I wouldn't file and soak the seeds later than May 12th, in order to take advantage of the best pollinating dates, wich are said to last until July 10th.

Last year I sowed May 2nd but I lost 2 weeks because I picked off all the male flowers when they were babies(Ich bin ein dumnkopf) and didn't pollinate until July 23rd so I think you would be looking at a similar pollination date from a May 17th sowing. What it amounts to is swapping 2 weeks in early July for 2 weeks in late September.I'd much rather have those July days, thats at 50 degrees latitude.

The hotter the summer, the earlier they mature...

okay, i guess it is better to go withthe earlier germination date, and try to keep them in one piece till 5 Oct. thanks for all the input.
