On to my seeds! This year I have truly been blessed with the generosity of our Pumpkin Growing Community. Thank you all very much! Here is what I will be growing this year:

996.5 Handy – 790 Daletas x 730 Stellpflug
821 Garrell – 845 Bobier x Sib
805 Pukos – 1092 Burke x 723 Bobier
716 Daletas – 879 Holland x 801.5 Stelts
707 Toftness – 846 Calai x 723 Bobier
537 Hildebrand – 455.5 Andrews

My plans at this time have me selfing all of these seeds except for the 996.5 Handy. I am going to cross it with the 716. The reason for this is that the 716 is the same cross and same plant as the 790. I am trying to purify the 790 genes here. If anyone has other ideas of crosses I should be doing with the 6 seeds I listed, please respond, all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again to all of the great people that have helped me get through the long winter months, given me seeds, ideas and friendship. I wish each and every one of you all of the best of luck for 2003!

Grow em big.

Owen, good luck to you this season! Way to go to carry some heavy pumpkins to Ludwigsburg in October. Time to start your BP diary 2003 now. Happy growing!

Desert Storm

New Brunswick

I, too wish to thank those of you who sent me seeds. I can't wait to get them started! We have had a very cold winter here in New Brunswick, that has set records. We still have ice in places on our lawn! By just using a plastic enclosed area, and black plastic on the ground, how near to the last full moon in June (our frost date) would I dare set out my as yet unstarted plants. Can you set them out in a plastic shelter while frost may still be in the air? How long can they exist inside in 4-6 inch peatpots? I have a dog yard, about 2 1/2 feet high that I am going to surround and cover with heavy plastic to set over my plants. Then I will remove it when it is warm and use it for its original purpose...my toy poodles. (: My soil is 100% decomposed horse manure so it is warm. I do use some peatmoss and potting soil to surround the seedling when I plant. Also, I have some 0 0 60 Potash...but do not know how old the plants should be before applying. I plan on using 20 20 20 fertilizer in the soil first, then planting, then using 15/30/15/ miracle grow...then more 20 20 20. followed by the 0 0 60 potash???? I could not so far in my "pumpkin growing book", find any mention of the potash....but I have not read it fully as of yet. Suggestions anyone?
