The weight won't count toward any record unless it's a sanctioned site. Sorry, I don't make the rules.

I don't know why it would not count as a state record? If you got it weighed with witnesses or news coverage. Or could it be weighed at the state fair? Is there a sanctioned site in California if kd7nzk grows a BIG ONE and needs to get it weighed? Does that mean for the 840 D contest you have to have your pumpkin or squash weighed at a sanctioned site. And how do you get a site sanctioned in case that is what we need to do here in Arizona.

I think the state fair would count. Do you have a county fair?

It doesn't have to be weighed at a sanctioned site. Witnesses, certified scale, pics, etc. will do it.

check for a recycling center for scrap metal nearby. i have one down the road, and they have digital scales that are certified by the state bureau of weights and measures.

As I understand from previous questions and answers on this subject from last year the only thing that makes it a "state record" is 1) that you live in that state. 2) you grew it. 3) it is weighed on a certified scale.
It helps to keep documentation like photos during the growing season. and have witnesses during weigh off. If you think you are going to shatter the record by alot the local paper or tv news will be happy to show up as they always need a good human interest story. ( they came to our house)
Weigh off at a "sanctioned site" is the only way to get the big GPC/WPC Money.
Grow'em big and set a new record. the Arizona record is pretty whimpy. As always KD7nzk feel free to email me if you have any questions growing my seed.
