The weather is finely warm and dry enough to get my seedlings into the patch. How do I determine which direction the vine will grow? I have 3 to 4 true leaves on each plant.

As a rule of the thumb the first vine will appear in opposite direction of the first true leaf. But that´s nothing else than prediction. However it worked for me on my 2 plants last year, and it looks like this again right now. So the direction of your 2nd true leaf (or 4th leaf totaling) should be the way to go. Good luck.

You may wish to set the seedling in the center of the patch then you don't have to worry about it, or set the seedlings a little farther from the edge of the patch so you have some room to train the main in your desired direction. I have about 60% luck in the plants running the opposite direction of the first true leaf. Good luck all....
