Erin,Ontario.

Is it to late to start seeds now?I have two seeds each from a Duke1056 and 766 Geerts and would like to start them this week.I live an hour north of Toronto and with the exception of this last weekend the weather has been brutal.

Not too late to start, but it's getting close. Good Luck.

If you just love to see these fool things grow Sept 30th. might be getting a little late. Yet having one in a five gallon bucket by a Southeast window might give you a conservation piece for Thanksgiving. Chef prepaired flower as a Thanksgiving garnish would be real one upmanship.

Scott, did you put the seeds directly in the ground or are you starting them inside?

I started my plants the first week of July last year( a very late start, I know!), and I still got a 75lb pumpkin by the third week of September. It would have got bigger, but I found out later I had a vine borer.

I'm just now getting 1/2 of mine outside, it's been too cool. I think when it's 55 or below, the plants don't grow much if at all. Why put them out in cold weather just to have them waste energy staying stable in cool soil? I think they'll catch up quickly to their early counterparts when it warms up.
I go for later May transplantings.
