this is the first time i have been to this sight, so i'm not sure if anyone has already asked this question. I had a 'leggy' plant as described in a previous post, and the stem was really thin but still able to hold the plant up. After the real leaves developed the stem after the cot leaves grew really thick. And now the base of my plant is fairly skinny, while the stem holding real leaves and new growth is thick. Will it affect the growth?

You should just build up soil all around the skinny part of the stem. It will prevent it from breaking and will eventually sprout new roots and thicken up.

if the plant is not protected from the wind just yet, you'll need to put wooden dowels or stakes in to keep the plant from suddenly toppling over and kinking or breaking that skinny stem---a lot of diary entries have interesting arrangements for preventing such disasters as wind-caused topple-over breakage....i don't have one yet.
