I am assuming the reason for closing the female back up after polination is to insure the gentics of the pumpkin. How long show you leave the female closed after polination?

The blossom will just shrivel up and fall off after successful pollination, no need to remove the yarn or whatever you use. Alot of times folks will remove the shriveled blossom themselves to promote drying of the blossom end after their sure they have a good set.

Just tie the blossom with a long tendril taken off one of your vines. It just rots off when the blossom does. Easy.
