Hello all,
I am new to the giant pumpkin growing scene. Planted some of the "prize winner hybrid" seeds this year and they are doing well. I know they arent true 'giants' but I thought I would start there and see how it goes. I have been keeping up with the growers diaries and they seem to be just a bit off the pace due to being planted about 2 weeks later than most I have seen.
My question is on a small split in the vine on one the regular jack o lantern pumpkins that I have growing. The split was caused by my pug (dog) stepping on the vine about 6 inches from the growth end. Its not very big, maybe half an inch, but there's about 2 of them on opposite sides of the vine. I have burried it with some top soil to protect it from bugs, is there anyhting else I should do? Hopefully it will survive. If not, ya win some ya lose some.
Have tried unsuccessfully in the past 2 years to grow pumpkins here in Colorado. Grew them back home in Iowa, and have had to modify my thinking a bit to get healthy plants to grow here. Buy I have read up and this years plants are doing very well. Have some females just begining to show, so all seems well!
Thanks for the help!
