1. One of my two plants main vine was 3ft long and almost as high. I have it down now but not without a small split and kink about 6 inches out from the stump. Should I be concerned with the vine? Other vines are growing from the stump, are these normally pruned or allowed to grow? One other vine is 2ft long and vertical. I'm inclined to keep the main vine as I have read that small splits don't seem to bother the vines. 2. I have an increased appreciation for anyone who grows these pumpkins. It is a lot of work and requires a lot of time. I am taking pictures and will post to a diary when time permits. 3. Anyone in New England seen sign of borers? I tried to grow some "Giant Pumpkins" on a whim last year. The whim got me hooked! They were Martha Stewart seeds from Kmart and of course they crashed and burned:) Never sprayed a thing just watered and fertilized. Borers were in every vine bigtime before I knew what a SVB was. So I'm "borer aware". Plants are on a merit diet this year and no sign yet. Bait
