Hi All, My name is Terry & I've been gardening for almost 20 yrs. My vegetable patch has grown steadily to about 1000 sq ft, I compost, have a cold frame, have 2 trays of seeds under lights in my basement, my wife calls me a fanatic & I thought I was one too. But you guys are like...MAD SCIENTISTS...I'm SO HAPPY I found this site! I've grown jack-o-lanterns & "Baby pumpkins" before but nothing like this. I bought some Atlantic Giant seeds from Gurneys & turned over a couple of small spots last fall, adding homemade compost, both rough & finished. From what I've read here, I'm WAY behind. I'm limited on space & want to keep my existing garden ( gotta have those tomatoes) & will be growing 2 plants along the fence over the grass, this has worked for other varietys. I ordered How to grow giant pumpkins 1 & 2. I'm looking forward to reading them & all the great info here. It's snowing here (Denver) with 4-8" forecast by tomorrow night, sounds like good reading weather! Thanks in advance for all the advice.

Terry, welcome aboard!! Sounds like you have all your ducks in a row. Those books will get you up to speed quick! One piece of advice i can give you is to get some free seeds from some of the people on this board. Most will give away excellent seed for the mere price of a self addressed bubble mailer. I assure you, these seeds will be better than the ones you got from Gurney's. One other thing, try and align yourself with some local growers, Marc Sawtelle comes to mind, (madman marc), not sure how close in proximaty you guys are, but he's a good person in your state at least to be in touch with.
good luck Scott

Welcome to the insanity of growing thingies that 'aint quite sure if they want to be orange or green. Hope you get a big orange thingy growing on the fence that you have to build a house under to finish. :) 300 pounds just does not hang to well. :) Been there and done that. I second the motion on the seeds. Ask and you will receive good seed here. Try and get one from a Western grower.

You have not planted the seed yet,so theres still time.Take your seed and burn it, ship it to Iraq, feed it it to a squirrel,or add salt to it and cook it.You still have a chance, there is still hope. You have a few weeks yet to "Just Say No"to AG seed growing.Get out while you still can.Unfortunately, nobody listens to me so you probably wont either,so good luck and grow it Big.

Thank you all for the nice welcome! I would be honored to grow seeds from one of your own pumpkins. Does anyone have seeds that might thrive up here? Mile high & DRY!
