I took my first weekend off from the patch and went fishing for the weekend much needed had a great time, tonite while spraying plants I noticed a few leaves with start of powdery mildew on one plant, this plant is growing back to back 10 feet apart from another plant from a different seed that has no sign of mildew both plants have received the exact same treatment of everything from day one, this makes me wonder if some of these diseases are from genetics and not from mistakes we make

I believe that where it starts at, is usually an area with little to no air flow. I have observed this a few times in the past.
And when you add in warm ,wet, humid weather, you will probably see it.
Even if you are spraying good, the spray will have a tough time getting on all the leaves if your spraying an area with a thick canopy. The leaves that do not get enough spray on them, will likely get pm first.
But, if your plants are pruned almost identical, then your theory may be true.

Could direction of airflow have any effect on which plant gets PM? Peace, Wayne

I agree some are initially more resistant with multiple diseases. I had 2 plants back to back this year and one had Gummy Stem or something similar where many of the stalks were rotten and the other plant never had any issues. Unfortunately, a massive windstorm took out the healthy plant in July and it never showed any sign of disease up to that date. I was able to salvage the diseased one after the storm and it got worse and worse until the pkn on it had a BES.
