So I am growing the 1810 Werner this year and noticed something interesting. The 1810 itself went very heavy (22%) to be exact. But! When you look at the offspring most of them have gone light. Curious as to why this might be?

Just like th McMullen it was 7% but it's growing pumpkins over 20% heavy

I’m a believer in it’s not just genetics. Soil, fertilizing and watering program play a very important role in percentages.

There are only a few lineages that consistently go heavy. It must be a recessive trait...

I think it is too small of a sample size. If you grow the 2145 you think I'm for sure going to get a pumpkin that is 10% heavy but it has grown about 21 pumpkins over 1000 pounds that went light to chart. And it has grown around 23 pumpkins over 1000 pounds that went 10% heavy

so far the 1810 has 2 that went heavy and 3 that went light so you probably won't have a great chance at getting 10% heavy or more but right now you have 50/50 chance that it is going to go heavy

If it was a genetic trait, and was recessive, then 100% of heavy x heavy= heavy. I suspect that the genetic component may not play much. Shape, fertilization/water combinations, heat ,sun etc likely play just as much , if not more.
