Lets start with a 30 wide x 40 spot, right now it has 3 trees in it, ill try and pull them up like weeds, but 2 are 20 to 30 foot tall ceders. Not sure how they got so tall as I have one big rock in my spot, well its layers of rock. water runs out of parts of it for days, After a good rain. That's why i'm moving this new spot over to get away from the runoff, as I have to plant late in the year or plants wont make it. last spot was turned over with a 2 foot plow, say 20 in deep as it was hard on it pulling up the rocks. its the bottom grows stuff well, all in all. New spot well be out of the springs. Who knew, I though no need to water my garden in the dry part of the year. This time i was going to line the outside with trees, say 12" to 20" as to get deeper dirt to grow in. 90 yards of fill will take some time. think its a good plan, Do I need all that depth for roots? my fill would be shad fish to cover the ground, hay, well rotted horse, cow, and turkey litter, and more hay. a load or 2 of clay dirt that will grow grass. let sit till spring. then plant in my old spot.

I suggest going to the USDA soil survey site: https://websoilsurvey.sc.egov.usda.gov/App/HomePage.htm . You can look up your property find the soil type, and check out multiple tables to see some of the properties of the soil. It is at least a start. I would definitely avoid a site that has a seep or spring unless you can install drainage tile to dry it up.
