Hi,

Just wondered if there is any info on supplement lighting for pumpkin growing
This year have 2 pumpkins growing under poly house and have decided to extend the daylight hours to s total of 20 using sodium high pressure
400watt globes each morning from 4 to 8am and 7 to 12 pm

Hopefully the extra red and orange light will increase photosynthesis
And sugar and fruit size

It sounds like an interesting Theory.
Would be good to see some photos in the grower diary to follow how the process is going and the final outcome from the setup.

Have started a grower diary so progress will be recorded
Plants seem to be growing extra fast compared to previous years.
Only planted out 5 weeks ago and each plant has fruit set

Have been doing a lot of research on the affects of the midnight sun in Alaska and the extra large vegetables and fruit produce in that region

Does anybody have any info on the lights used to grow the record pumpkins grown in Europe?

As an indoor grower,I have experimented with many different lights. I am wondering at what height about foliage your lights are placed. When I measure my lights with a PAR meter...it seems that it doesn't take much distance for the usable number of uMols to drop to a level that really does not offer benefit.

I have tried to calculate how many lights I would need to grow a pumpkin indoors..it was a high number...i am thinking something like 18,000 watts of HID lighting. I am thinking that unless you have many lights and they are placed somewhat close to the leaves that you are not going to see much benefit. I can be all wrong though. Curious to see what your results are.

Agree I am going to lower the lights but only to a point where the foliage does not get too hot

Also plants get very good light all day 8-5 so this is really to supplement
