I have squash growing that is a pale green. Would exposing it to the sun help green it up?

Maybe.....I have one growing this year that went from lime green to nearly all white while it was shaded....removed the shade....turned it very green.
Couple years ago I had one that I pulled the shade on and it promptly turned orange right on the top.

Thank you both for your responses. I will start leaving it uncovered for a few hours each day.

Moderate exposure will allow most types of fruit to achieve their full color potential. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=189709
like 1320 says, they can go orange on you in my experience if they get sunburned or have pumpkin in their recent background.

I was expecting this plant to grow a pumpkin so that is definitely a concern. Is it worth risking it turning orange? I guess I'll leave uncovered for a little while each day and see what happens.

If you planted a 'pumpkin' seed the fruit should turn orange or go a darker yellow. The green is more of a genetic trait that attempted to be isolated. You won't get a true squash by exposing your pumpkin.
