For anyone wanting to continue the squash x pumpkin hybridization here are my dream crosses for 2019:

2118* Jutras 2017 x 2138 Ceja 2018 or vice versa
And/Or
1807* Holub 2017 x 2138 Ceja 2018 or vice versa

I like the nice solid salmon color of the 2138 as a breeder.

The 2020 offspring will be pumpkins, but self them and in 2021 we'll be back to 1/4 greenies.

This year I'll try to grow green pumpkin from my 1645.8 Dabrowski 2018 pumpkin seeds (cross between 2296 Paton and 1445 * Jutras).

mdab - The seeds from your 1645 will probably throw a pumpkin this year, but self it, or cross it with a squash and you'll have a chance and getting a huge greenie in 2020.

Arent some greenies carrying recessive white? I would try a greenie but which ones currently available dont have any hidden white genes? I wonder if a strong vibrant orange like the gantner would lessen the chance of white genes hiding?

The gene that hides... Would it be fair to say its a more translucent white than a solid paper white?

would be best but hard to identify 3/4 of all pumpkins are carrying recessive white. Thats as simple as I can figure it.

It may be more complicated than this, p representing all pumpkin colors of true pumpkin lines simplifies it... not sure if the probable squash outcomes are correct for every possible configuration of genes that p might represent.

True pumpkin with expressed opaque gene x true green:

resulting gene possibilities when selfed:
PPww same as grandparent 1/16 chance
PPwo pumpkin 1/8 chance
PPoo possible super nice orange depending on the many genes that PP represents? 1/16 chance
Pgoo pumpkin 1/8
Pgow pumpkin1/4
Pgww pumpkin probably ugly 1/8
ggoo squash true green 1/16 chance
ggwo green squash, carrying recessive w gene 1/8 chance
ggww not a squash and never going to be a true pumpkin either...translucent white also 1/16 chance
Anyhow please comment if you think this checks out in terms of what we have seen in the past and maybe we can improve the odds in our favor by finding a PPoo type pumpkin to start with. Hard to tell which have recessive white ironically a big white pumpkin like the 2157 Daletas could possibly not have the recessive white gene? I dont know what salmon color indicates but the recessive white should be identifiable if we knew what to look for. Even though its recessive there should be some slight indication.
Perhaps there is no recessive white gene perhaps there is another genetic mechanism but one way or another the genetics are not staying green 100 % of the time. Interesting project certainly.

What is "o" "no white" gene?

There is a recessive white, but not all whites are "ww"

And having one "w" gene has no effect on a fruit's colour
