Joel Holland, a true legend in the sport, a heavy hitter, an ambassador for the sport, a great husband and family man, has fallen asleep in death. Our condolences go out to Mari Lou Holland, and all of the immediate and extended Holland family.

RIP Joel, sending my condolences to all family and friends.
I can remember calling Joel to place an order and he would always be super friendly, asking how the weather was where I was located etc. He was a Long time grower that saw the hobby grow and multiply from the early days when he was mentioned in Don Langevins books How to grow world class pumpkins 1,2,3 Don had titled a chapter "heavy hitters" and Joel was one of the growers highlighted. He will be missed.

Did not expect this sad news so suddenly. At least had a few days to think about Joel along with his family and all their great pumpkin growing feats and contributions over the many years too numerous to mention. However I will his first big one 1992 and new WR at 827 lbs. He also had a 722 that year too I believe and those 2 seeds went on to produce further great ATLANTIC GIANTS! The giant pumpkin growing community has lost another legend and pioneer. Our deepest condolences to Mari Lou and family. Danny and family.

Joel was much more than successful a pumpkin grower. But as it pertains to pumpkins, he was the top pumpkin grower in the world for a time I would esteem him as still the top grower in Washington state. We have some talented growers but nobody has come in 1st place as many times as he did. He was very consistent in his pumpkin growing and his kindness.

My heart is broken at hearing this news. As much as a giant he was at pumpkin growing his kindest and generosity was second to none. My pb pumpkin (1376) in 2007 was grown from his 1014 seed. Love and prayers to Mari Lou and his family.
