Found one of my gourds lying on the ground ... In two pieces. Ripped itself from the vine taking much of the main vine with it. I tied the other one up but now I only have half a vine feeding it. This won't happen again!

I had one lawn dart on me this year...thankfully, I had watered heavy around the plant. She nosed dived in but the soft soil cushioned the fall, I was lucky.

Don, what do you do to prevent this? How/where/with what do you tie them with?
I wondered this but my 1 gourd only got part way up the trellis then grew along the ground. I used a small piece of cloth to tie the stem onto the trellis.
My second gourd is hanging down from the middle of the top of my trellis and I have not secured it yet.
Any help on this would be appreciated....1st year gourd grower here.

Good question Glenn. I'm new at this too this is my second year. I have this plant growing at the end of my greenhouse so I have a purloin above the gourd to tie a 10 mm nylon rope to. I wrapped the rope a few times around the gourd near the top. If I've messed up let me know ok guys!
A closer inspection of the fallen gourd revealed tha a Velcro tie I had on the vine may have let go. The stem looks capable of supporting the weight but the way the vine turned and wrapped around the trellis caused some stress.

Hey Don, the wind is back down south and my gourd is swinging in the breeze. I put in a few stakes in the ground and am using old nylons to keep it from swinging. They give a little, but not very much. I've also got one at the top just adding a little support to the vine. Do you have any more going? Alan

I have one more but it is connected to the vine after the spot tha was partially torn. We will see what half a vine will do. The leaves look fine but we need more than 3 sunny days a month. What a crappy year.
