I just planted a couple 56.2 English plants. They are grafted onto a squash rootstock. It will be fun to see how they do. Who else is growing? This is my first year growing giant cantaloupes, I am guessing mine will be ready in mid to late August. I would prefer a little later to hit a weigh off, but in September around here the weather is less than ideal for growing. A few cold nights and downy mildew finishes things off.

I will be putting in two cantaloupes this year. I have two 71.6 English and two 56.2 English just a few days old. Going to take out a watermelon that got frost damaged early and put in one each of the best of the two "varieties".

My plan is to grow two 71.6 and one 56.2 English this season. Started the seeds just over 2 weeks ago, transplanted out to the garden this weekend. I'm hoping they'll be ready by the MN state fair, assuming it's "normal" this year.

Does loupe grafting actually lead to bigger fruit, or are you all just being extra? It's my understanding that the WR was ungrafted.

It's about survival rather than size; I lose the roots halfway thru' the season unless grafted on something more resilient!

Huh. Do you have a specific problem pathogen or pest in the UK that takes out the roots?

Curtis that is interesting, I didn't know people were using FP to graft to. CJB, In my case I am doing the grafting mostly because I like to do it. I am not sure how much it will help me. I had some problems with my grafts failing this year, which is why I don't have a 71.6 to put in the ground. (I saved some seed for next year.)
Here is a link that I found interesting.

The issue is probably overwatering....they have to make do with the same regime as the ag's etc.
I tried FP stock as the bushel stocks didn't germinate.

All plants popped up quickly. Will be interesting to see which ones will be keepers since I do not have the space to grow all of them. Best of luck to all growers!!!

I’m giving it a shot. I’m growing two 56.22 Prochaska plants, would’ve been four, but apparently raccoon like fish fertilizer and Wow starter packs they dug out my first two:( Question? Do Cantaloupe grow vines opposite of the first true leaf like pumpkins?

Lost their tags. I think Lindley fifty something pound was one. I'm not trying very hard. I would be totally happy with 20 lbs. Gonna have to give them a try again next year.

Had some early success grafting my seeds, but all my other graft attempts failed so the other 6 plants will be grown traditional. Also had to restart a couple since it's been so wet here last few weeks that a couple plants rot off right at ground level. Never have had that happen before so will have plants staggered out at different start times this year.
