Sometimes I wonder all these years growing many types of pumpkins they still keep surprising me making absolutely no sense what so ever. We are having our worst drought ever on record, basically no rain much since early June. Anyway had my son start cutting a few today that were ready. One weighed 102 lbs. This field had no care much, irrigation, etc. We tag mark all our transplants thankfully it was from a 115 Ansems'23.

That is incredible! All that sunlight, it must have been able to suck up just enough water from below. Super impressive! I was just up in Northern New Hampshire and saw how bad the drought was there. I have heard its really bad over a large expanse.

Born for success, I (as in only my thought) believe all species do this. Walk through an airport or state fair once in a great while your like dang. Sometimes it all comes together. Seems the whole gamble in growing the big ones it to couple that "dang" with strong horticultural practices to get one that boom boom pow. The surprises keep us engaged

Yes amazing wonderful World of genetics and surprises. All I can think of this field got planted early and rooted down well? Roots naturally grow searching for moisture and picking up any nutrients along the way. Maximum sunshine for sure. Dad back in the day would focus on a few of his prized ATLANTIC GIANTS, the later in the season, one he wasn't paying attention to much, would suddenly pop up and say to him..."Hey take a look at me"? One year it turned out to be one of his WR!!! Pumpkins have an attitude I guess?
