I accidentally fried a couple plants earlier this week because I forgot it was getting up to 75 and sunny, and left their greenhouses closed, would it be too late to restart a plant? One of the Bushel Gourds is definitely dead, and I have space for 2 in the plot. Generally my plants have survived till early October before frost kills them, not enough experience to know if this is enough time. Any input is appreciated Thanks!

In Virginia you could start one. Not sure about Ontario. If it hot enough you can make it. Best of luck to you.

I should be asking myself the same thing. You could certainly switch to field pumpkins and do well... I think bushel gourds are similar to watermelons.

I don't grow BGs butt I have the seeds to do it and yet if you can go by what happened with the first few, that'll happen consecutively as well. If it takes 6 days to sprout, you know that and if it takes...IN any event, DO go for it! eric g

That's fair...2 weeks from plant to transplant gives me early June outside, so I'd be looking at a week later than last year. You know what, I might, that wouldn't be so bad.

As soon as you can tell the growth direction, if that even matters, plant, plant, plant. Even direct seed one or 3. No seed NEEDS our overly-cautious, brightly-lit and 'as big a plant as possible to go in the garden' care beyond merely frost protection. Ever seen a few rogue seedlings from last year's lost seeds as you prepare the patch? YuP! Them's the Smarties! Good Luck---eg

It's all good. I started some last weekend, as soon as they germinate they're going outside. Hopefully I can still get a 150 or 200 pounder for a weighoff this fall.
