97pounder!

Centennial Colorado

Hi all,
I wanted to know what other people are growing for their lineup and ask what the recommended crosses would be for pumpkins. My lineup is 642 Grubbs, 1416.5 Haist, and either the 1937 Urena or 1718 Ceja (hopefully 1718 if it decides to vine in the correct direction). I think these all have potential, but I am also wanting big and orange. My main candidate is the 642 for HDA, so should I self it if I have the opportutity to? If there is no male pollen from it which would you choose as the second? I ask this because last year I was not prepared and lucked out that there was a grower near me with the male I wanted.
Thanks,
Leif

i had no seeds germinate for me today for the first time in a few days; disappointing, but they will come around shortly, i am sure! my lineup'll be bitchin', but enough about them lol---so, with all of my free time, lol, i went a bit NUTs like George Costanza and rounded up your choices to make it easier for the Recommendors that will soon be a-recommendin' - good luck!---eg

PS---no pics of the 1718 offspring, but as i'm dozing off, i'd say self the 642 and keep the orange flame a-goin' and the 1718 speaks to me to pollinate TO and FROM the 642 and/or use ANY of your seeds with each other.
how will i sleep tonight?
...you really cannot go wrong with ANY of your seeds, guaranteed!

1872 Sippel,1411 Engel, 1040 Fehr, 1143 Engel. Watch the 1040 Feher as it is a 920 Cooper x 781 Engel. 920 is a 1374 Engel x 1495 Stelts, 781 is a 1374 x 359 Foss. Lot of orange in that cross. 1411 Engel I am hoping will be orange as it is a 1200 Engel x 920 Cooper. I find planning crosses is nice, but the plants don't always work out, and are not ready the day of the deed is needed to be done.

Oh, and (LastButNotLeast) a Gary Adams 1200 cross (2145 McMullen X 1495 Stelts) - hard to raise my head after dreaming of that cross! eg

You can hopefully tell by dap 10 or so which ones will be the most orange. Thus for your later pollinations of the year you may be able to make an orange x orange pollination. The ones that will turn the orangest start out a lovely canary yellow I think? Make your pollinations based on all the info you have when you pollinate.

Remember Fruit Stripe Gum? 'Lemon Yellow - Orange Orange'?
that's all i remember but all i need to, lol - yes, lemon-yellow always a good sign, and then you think to yourself
about the genetics and that reinforces your strut, walking away, one last look...don't stumble, lol---eg

I like the lineups. Thanks for the advice. I figured that lemon color was a good sign last year and ended up second place for HDA twice.

You cannot tell how orange a pumpkin is going to be until about day 50...I have had a few beautiful pumpkins cantaloupe and become salmon green color in the end.

Interesting yes the only sure thing is that a pale whitish one at DAP 10... wont ever turn brilliant orange?
