I think the strange stem/roots issue is caused by rot from too much moisture that can be hopefully mitigated by my previous-page recommends. Also the SS Mix can be allowed to dry out until the top 1/4 to 1/3 of an inch hits a lighter shade of brown. A test is to dig in with a finger and if anything sticks, it is still moist enuff, but keep an eye on it. This all may only apply to my preferred Mix.

This FP is pretty much 3 feet long now, 'all' from 3/4 of a drinking cup of SS mix and such, using occasional hits of MG Tomato Food at 1 TBSP/Gal and its 18-18-21 constitution. My thought is 'If it grows like THIS, now???...' I love my 42 FP, already, lol. G'luck---eric g

Its a normal quirk of pumpkin development. I have not had the flopping problem but I squirt some clean water to repack the soil after emergence or lightly push the soil back. On the other hand they do need to lay down eventually though.

Try starting the seedlings in a seed starting mix. Starting them in the southerland mix could be too hot for them.
