No worries, in most cases the virus material in the soil should not be a problem. The mosaic virus is transferred from one plant to the other through the plant's juice, and usually insects such as aphids do that nasty job...sucking juice from one plant and then moving to the next plant (still having some virus load on their proboscis). Another very likely way is the "do it yourself" method...for example when pulling weeds (which may also carry the virus), then your hands are contaminated with some of the juice of the weeds, and pruning vines etc. on the pumpkin plant at the same time will be a combination which makes it likely to transfer the virus from the weeds to the pumpkin plant. In the past, I have had years with and years without mosaic virus infection, they usually started in July/August (when the surrounding area was pretty dry, the aphids were thirsty and moving around and settling in my green oasis). When the first signs of mosaic infection appear at beginning of August (when the pumpkin is already 20+ days old and the plant is well established), then you just need to take care to keep the already established plant material as healthy and productive as possible, and the fruit will continue to grow nicely (that's my experience from last year, when mosaic found its way into my plants in early July, and I still grew a fruit in the weight range of my personal bests). It's just the new growth the suffers pretty much from moasic.

The only mosaic that I know of that will persist in the soil is tobacco mosaic which only affects nightshades. So you should be ok. Do as Pumpking says, realiizing it is being spread to your pumpkins by insects from host plants.
