Great photo Glenn! I didn't even know it was possible for a pumpkin to go that light? Just kidding buddy! I'm sure it had something to do with the way you watered this season. I was told by an old timer and one of the best growers out there, that if your plant looks healthy, green, beautiful, nice leaves, no brown spots or crusty leaves you weren't pushing the ferts or watering enough. I've seen this growers plants at the end of September with 2400 pound fruit growing and his plants were toast!
Talk to that dentist up there and pick his brain. I'm sure he'll be able to get you back on track and maybe even grow a heavy one next year.:) He's an ok grower and seems to know what he's doing.:)

I wouldn't trash the leaves, keep up the good work! My opinion: I think the foliage closest to the pumpkin helps pack on the pounds. The foliage that is too far away could even be a hindrance.
