Last year my season ended early after being infested with cuke beetles followed by yellow vine disease. Saw my first two tonight trying to make more so I soaked them with pyrethrin spray and I soaked the plants as well.
Will regular foliar sprays be effective?
From what I have read the effects are short lived although the maker says every two weeks is enough.

Have you considered using a garlic spray to deter the cuke beetles? We've used a garlic spray (garlic barrier) every year we've grown and very rarely seen cuke beetles let alone an infestation. Cant help you on the pyrethrin as our to go pesticides were usually bifenthrin and merit. They took care of just about anything.

Regular foliar sprays are effective, You just need at least 2 different ones, with 2 different codes. I can't remember what the actual name is for the codes, but you need 2 different ones. I alternate liquid sevin and bifen IT, and spray weekly

Frac codes tell you how the chemical causes the death of the insect

Thanks for the replies. I applied a garlic spray as well to the plants and surrounding soil. I think I'm going to need something a little more potent to stay on top of this. The chemicals mentioned have become harder to get here.

Bayer Crop Science, like 'All-Purpose' but ust list Cucumber Beetles - as long as it says Imidacloprid or Merit, etc., good to go. blue bottle at Lowe's - will last me for years? mix with H2O and
spray entire plant, although it's systemic anyway; If your plants are small and not yet male-flowering, there goes the beetles!, ,but, any flowers open WILL KILL honeybees/other insects. Does the job though. eg

Well success, sort of. I went to the nursery that gets most of my business.
I told them of my predicament and from behind the counter he gave me a jug of malathion. Not the best, but better than what I’ve been using. This will be a long season with multiple applications each week.

I must care about everyone, somewhat, so, here's
some info on Malathion; Since I looked it up we might as well know all about it;
I had thought it was banned or something so it rang a bell.

I would say "Be safe" but that's vague and BS - wear rubber gloves and at least a COVID mask, lol, since you'll be applying it waaaayyy more often than I'd ever like to---I have an infestation of squash bugs, meaner-looking and glaring at me more than usual. I mean, you push on them and they almost fight back!

Well, we'll see in the morning---the cucumber beetles are dead already.
The SBs may have to suck on my 1985 Miller a little more, and they're just doing what they do to survive---eg

The Canadian government put out a notice about the danger of using malathion older than a year. Something about heat causing the malathion to become much more toxic. In any event, I’m being as safe as I can.
