Hi,

Where I live (Belgium), temperatures during the day are quite high for the spring(18°C = 64°F) but at night the temperature drops near freezing poin and sometime a bit below(30°F).

Now is my question: is it a good idea and if so,is there a way to let your plant(s) take advantage of the warm temperatures during the day and protect them during the night?

Thanks in advance for any reaction!!

If you put a greenhouse cover, polytunnel, or mini greenhouse, and open it all the way off during the day, when it gets to warm for the plants, and cover it before the evening, so that it can gather heat for the night. Or you could use heating in the ground or above ground, and turn it off at night. Rather one would let you have no additional heat during the day, but extra at night. Hope that helps :)

Small temporary greenhouse(1.5 meterx 2 meters) will elevate soil temps. You have to desighnit to open up its ends to vent the heat on s
days with any sun.Theyll heat up to 120degrees F quickly when the sun comes out.I like to say you can only kill the plant once.

Check out my diary through the years 2014 - 2019, I am using some frames covered with some fleece fabric (30 g / m2). Each tunnel is ca. 1 m wide, 3 m long, 80 cm high. In each tunnel there´s an 80 W heating cable (on top of the soil, just to allow for some air circulation and warmth at night). The fabric allows for the air inside the tunnel to warm up at daytime but prevents excessive heat. You don´t need to open it in the morning and close it in the evening day by day. If there´s some frost forecase, I throw a blanket over the tunnel at night. This way, inside temperatures are ca. 7 degrees (K, °C) above outside temperatures at night.
