Has anybody started giant pumpkin seeds inside with a hydroponics set then transferred to soil when the weather permits? I did a trial run instead of waiting until grow season and the seed sprouted and I transferred it successfully into a container with soil where it seemed to continue growing under a UV light for a week before I ended the experiment. My only concern now is the shock of moving from water to soil could stunt the pumpkins growth in the long run. Thank you!

Instead of deep water culture, try flood to waste with coir/peat as a medium. When planting out, put the whole coir/peat filled root mass in the ground. I do this with no problems.

Interesting, thanks for the input. I wasn’t familiar with flood to waste method. I’m reading about it now… would this method essentially be the same as using a drip line and regular soil, except replacing the soil with peat? Is this still hydroponic? Also, have you heard of people having complications relating to stunted growth when transferring from hydroponics to the ground? Thanks!

Not a bad idea, if you can untangle the roots when you set it outside. But I havent heard of anyone doing this. You have between now and April to test the idea and solve any unforseen problems...?

Should be able to keep momentum if your plant doesnt get root bound in your hydro chamber and your transfer into soil has temps around 60 degrees.
