I posted three pics in my diary of my early squash plant. I had some suspicions about what was excessive and what was deficient. I did a tissue test so now I know... but before I post the test results... what do you think? Try figuring out the three nutrients that are in excess and three that are deficient. Pics were taken the day the sample was taken.

I can tell it has an excess of nitrogen, but beyond that, i dont know.

Correct. Leaves are large and bloated plenty of nitrogen. . . For deficiencies my guess was sulfer and phosphorous were low... However one of these was on target. So the other... may account for most of whats wrong. Care to make a guess... Low phosphorous, or low sulfer?

I would guess low phosphorus, but thats just a guess.

The only way to really know is to do a tissue test. Anything short of that is just a wild ass Guess.

It tested normal for phosphorous and deficient in sulfer. There is an even paleness to the green color (especially at the tips)... I believe this is one indication of low sulfer. The tips are a bit stunted... Low boron. Lastly. . . low copper. Those three nutrients are all that is holding this particular plant back according to the western labs tissue test. Feed me copper, sulfer and boron Seymour!!! Yum.

Wait you won't do a soil test because you feel it is a waste of money but you will do a tissue test to tell you what your plant is lacking. You got it all backwards, yet that is how you chose to grow. Some year you should try what is been proven out...instead of speculating and guessing

Even paleness to the tips huh Brandon?....low sulpher you say?...what did the lab recommend and what will you end up doing?....and how do you know wether or not you are low in the soil , or soil is good but the plant is refusing to take it in.?...

Yep you guys have it exactly right I took soil test this year on my patch as I always do twice a year so I know what my soil needs and has. But I had stunted secondaries so I could’ve just been dumping on nutrients however I knew my soil was fine but it was very cloudy so obviously the elements had as much to do with it as the plant and soil so instead of just adding nutrients I waited and now the plants are growing amazingly well.

Get some Ureamate and start foliar feeding to correct those deficiencies.

How about posting the whole report in your diary?

Great points Shannon and Pchop, but advice seems to fall on deaf ears I’m afraid.

I cant do a soil test in this location. If you bury pig guts under your plant and a 1000 lb of wet hay and top it all with chicken manure what are you going to send in? I already know my soil. And I would have to have a lot of time and a backhoe to evenly mix all that garbage. Sorry for trying to have fun and grow a pumpkin at a hobby level. . .jeez.

I have to do tissue test to see what the plant is uptaking. I wont have to worry about drip tape etc but yeah if you dont like redneck methods well sorry I could care less. I have the tissue results. Just thought fun an educational to post but whatever. You guys are not fun and I will stop trying to have any fun!

Gkins, can you post the tissue test results and recommendations in your diary for our educational purposes? It would be useful to other growers and that would be more helpful than a guessing game. Thanks.
