I thought I would start a thread to get some brain storming started. This would be the ultimate publicity event...

The topic: The worlds largest pumpkin pie from a single pumpkin.
(It doesn't necissarily have to taste good)

The question: How do we pull it off? Is there a world record already?

hey you

Greencastle, PA

That's a good idea, my great grndma made an apple pie from one apple that was nine inches across and two inches deep. She entered it in a contest and won. An AG would make a huge pie, or a whole keg of pumpkin beer.

I looked trough my guinness book of world records, and I couldn't find a record for the larsest pumpkin pie.

apple pie- 40x23ft. weight= 30,115lbs.
cherry pie- 20ft diameter weight= 37,740lbs 10oz.

But this book was made for 1993 a lot has changed since then they say that the largest pumpkin weighed 816lbs 8oz.

I think we should try for the biggest pie ever we could make it an even 20 tons. Or 40,000 lbs. That would take what... 100 pumpkins.

I also searched guinness' world records website there was no record for the largest pumpkin pie there either. But then again they said that the biggest pumpkin weighed 1131 lbs.

Justin

P.S. I would be willing to put my pumpkin into the worlds largest pumpkin pie.

I hope that it tastes good.

Wonder how those people did it?

Does the Guinnes book give their names or contact info?

Just make sure none of the AG's have used systemic insecticides. If they have make sure they have been applied the correct amount of days or earlier before harvest.
Other wise we could also set the record for the worlds largest tummy ache.

Would it have to be edible? I think John's idea of the largest pie made from a "single" fruit i good. You can set a record without having to bake something the size of a train car.

I agree with svrichb. I think we should set the record for the largest pumpkin pie made from one giant pumpkin, and the largest pumpkin pie made with many giant pumpkins.

I have a wonderful pumpkin pie recipe that I am entering in a regular size pie contest at the state fair in Nebraska at the end of the month. I also have a recipe for pumpkin pot stew, were you cook the pumpkin all in one piece (set in a pan surrounded by water). Then cook a beef stew, and serve it inside the pumpkin. Karen

John,
Sent in the pie recipe, can't find my pumpkin pot stew on the computer, so I will retype it and send it soon.

I won't be entering my pie in the state fair after all, the grand prize for best pie (all of them, not just the pumpkin) is only $15. The fair is 40-60 minutes away, to much gas money for that little prize.

Karen,,,not the money which counts,,,its the prestige and trophy's,,,,go for it,,if you win,,then you can say,,"I grew it,,and I was the best of the best that day"...Go for it girl!!

thanks for the vote of confidence Jeff, I don't really care about the cash. As for the trophy you say, the trophy is some cookbook, and a rosette (not even a ribbon). I don't get the concept of you win a cooking contest and they give you a cookbook. Hello? I already know how to cook, that is why I won, Duh. Now if the cookbook was for everyone but the winner I understand that.

It's just a long way to go, and miss a day of work to take one pie down there. I have enough family, friends, co-workers (plus my husbands and my mother's co-workers) that all love my pumpkin pie and say it's the best they ever had. Maybe I'll try to get contest going at work, with a good prize.

Jeff, I don't know how I would mail a pie.

The pies I make this year, will not be from my pumpkins, I think I'll try at least one plant just for pies in one section of the garden next year....Karen

I looked in the 1997 guiness edition and I didn't see anything about pumpkin pies.

The current record according to Guiness representatives is 6 feet. There is currently a festival in Illinois planning to bake a 12 footer in October.
