Are mushrooms a good or bad thing to have in your patch? Is this a sign of too much water, or a good nutrient balance?

I've noticed a few shoots pop up in areas I can't get to easily. They don't appear to stick around for long.

's far as I know, they are the flowering apparatus of a fungus, probably a good sign of organic matter and a strong Mycorrhizal presence - i haven't ever researched my opinion, but everybody loves mushrooms! and...pumpkins---eg

Goodness, I've thought of it - shove a Top Seed into it, and watch it grow! If i see any mushrooms, now, i'll do it. eg

Like Don says they are from the wood chips. Probably neither good nor bad.

Alot of things can occur including mushroom or visible fungi when a soil is to fungal dominant and stays cool and damp. My target is to balance my soil 65-70% bacteria- 35-30% fungal. I'm more of a watermelon grower but I'm going to say that it will apply to pumpkins and other plants as well. Different types of compost or soil mixtures can add bacterial dominate properties or some can add more fungal properties. Ideally you would like a 60-40 mix with bacterial being dominant. Just my 2 cents and I hope this will lead to you doing some research for yourself to get to know your soil to help your future grows.

Thanks Nick. I have heard that too. I will have to do some research, do you know of any links that you would recommend?
