I have made pie from my A.G. pumpkins but a friend tried some in pumpkin preserves and they were too mushy. Has anyone in here tried to cook with them?

With all the fertilizers and bug spay I wouldn't want to eat them.

Suzy...I am an organic grower. Mine get nothing but regular fertilizers applied to soil...safe for all veggies. I use only rotonone as a bug killer.
P.S. I am also a "Suzy" *grin*

I've made some pretty good casseroles from the young culls. Just like squash cas. but use culls instead of crookneck.

Last Year out of our 207er we bottled
50 1/ltr glasses pumpkinpieces sweet and sour (mmmjamjam)
and freeze
20 1/ltr freezerboxes mashed for soup and pie (mmmjamjam)
10 freezerbags little pieces for marmalade (mmmjamjam)

BTW: I dont grow for a contest but only for personal best. I only use manure and normal veggie fertilizer and no insectizide or fungizide.

My opinion is that it won't hurt even if you use fertilizers and bug spray because theres probably already alot of that crap in the stuff we eat.
