This kin shares half the genetics of the world record, I believe? But its only been grown a few times. Wondering if anyone thinks it would be worth a try... & if not, why not?

The 1955.5 was grown from the 2112 that pollinated the1885.5. It was pollinated by a 1937 Werner that went down to a blossom end split at 55 DAP. It was a nice looking fruit in its own right and the genetics are sound. Only knock on it is that it's grown a few light kins. At the same time, only 3 have made it to scale, grown by growers who aren't world class, and 2 of them are personal bests.

But here's your answer: If you have multiple results outside 2 standard deviations on a normal/bell curve then you are elite.

When you or anyone says half the genetics of this or that, remember that there are a billion little things going on that we know very little about, really; I doubt that most of the WRs and new highs otherwise were ever sure things to begin with. There must be stories somewhere that state that a new PB was grown from a backup plant. That thought in mind, yeah, go for it butt disregard the thought that the others from it 'went light' - If there were no chart to compare it to, it'd still be (if not simply thought of as to begin with) a heavy-ass pumpkin

Sorry, didn't mean to offend. Just meant that the 1955.5 wasn't grown by someone who routinely wins weighoffs or grows over 2000.

That personal best to my way of thinking is a good sign and I was not the least bit offended because I do not put in "world class effort" to get "world class results" . Kudos to those that do and they deserve the good results they normally get.

Agreed. One of my most common comments to non-growers is that I get out of it what I put into it, always acknowledging that I need to spend more TIME, not necessarily more MONEY, on FEWER of them. We all know how it is at planting time, though! Every year is gonna be 'MY year'. PS - to be clear and I hate to mention it and we should be done with my harangue, my initial comment was because of the growers whom had grown the 1955.5 and had the results they had; In seeing those impressive results,
I was curious as to what a World-Class Grower was considered to be.
Life is of many learning experiences and I have had yet another, lol! Later - eg
