It even goes to explain by Vermiculite is important to the ion/cation/humus of a soil...it stores nutrients/makes it available to plants.

Vermiculite stores nutrients. Perlite does not. Perlite helps with soil aeration and drainage but does not increase the cation exchange content.

Thanks for the correction Marv, I read Vermiculite first but was thinking maybe I should of put perlite Instead because of the possible asbestos in some Vermiculite sources-some might not want to use it(unless they fixed this problem?)

"Perlite is a naturally occuring, volcanic rock. When furnaced at high temperatures, Perlite "pops" and expands 7 to 15 times its original volume. The resulting lightweight particles are made up of microscopic spheres with a porous, broken surface that promotes plant growth. This allows aeration and drainage of the root system and provides holding capacity for water and nutrients."

the first quote is from a manufacturer and the link is from another site. It retains and drains at the same time.

Vermiculite will also fix Potassium permanently within the octahedral sheet inside, making it permanently unavailable. Not every addition is all it's cut out to be in the end, so read a little more before you go chucking a ton of it in your soil.

You'll feed the vermiculite before you feed the pumpkins.
