the key is the framework. pvc hoops wont work unless its very small. 30% shade from OBC northwest framework (just the connectors) creativeshelters.com

In Ohio you may want to try Crop King www.cropking.com or BFG Supply at www.BFGsupply.com. I purchased mine from Waldo's which is wholesale only. The shipping for the shade cloth should not be expensive at all because it is very light weight. Mine came drop shipped from the manufacturer from out of state, if memory serves me correctly it was $24 for a 30' X 100' piece of 50% shade cloth. "not for pumpkins"

I made a big box out of 3/4" plywood and 2x4's. I stuck it over the plant before the hail started. Tore up the box and the plant. I don't think you can stop the stuff. I tried another contraption with a big tarp thinking if there was enough give in it, the hail would and just roll off. It worked pretty good, until the dumb tornado tore up the plant. So I am open to ideas as well.

Get protection as seen on The WizardNator.........It will bounce off and roll the smaller stuff, stops rice hail, Heck......since I put it up....... it hasnt hailed......Actually it did hail once, I have it stretched and the hail bounces then rolls off. Aint much gonna stop big hail except TheBiz's Toyota......
Check it out here.....

The net has a shade factor of 10%. Great for trellis or “T” bar structures. Can be fabricated with tape and grommets. 20 X 25 was less than 150$

littlebit/p pastor-I used 22% white shade cloth over 3 plants last year.Ive got a series of metal fence posts and rope every 5.5 feet supporting the shade cloth. the shade cloth is held to the rope with home depot utility clamps. That system works good until thers a lot of hail, weight wise.I grew my state record under the shade cloth this last season. i bought the shade cloth through greenhouse megastore-online I had two hails in one day and had to go out twice to remove about 10 lbs of hail from each low spot in the netting.

I just read an article in a ski magazine, that says there is a spot over on the west slope, where the have a propane burner and burn, I believe, "Aluminum Iodide", and it seeds the clouds to make it snow. On average they have been getting 4 feet more snow each year because of it. I need one of cannons. I tell you, I am about ready to build a house underground here if it keeps hailing like it does.
